Renewing our own voice.
During 2005 and 2006, Nokomis Foundation engaged in a renewal process that helped us:
Celebrate our history
Nokomis Foundation’s first 15 years embraced and advanced our identity as a feminist organization. Our collaborative role with partners and our commitment to shared leadership have allowed us to listen to the voices of women and girls and develop strategies that bring those voices together for bold, collective impact.
Affirm our partnerships
Nokomis Foundation’s grant partners are the connection between past investment and future impact. Working with our partners through the renewal process, we established a shared understanding of our hopes for the future, and recommitted ourselves to investing in lasting change.
During renewal, we made core operating support grants totaling $590,000 to 10 long-term Nokomis Foundation partners. Thirteen partners were selected to receive organizational development support through the Making the Case and Smart Growth processes.
Additionally, the following initiatives continued to operate during our renewal, and their contributions to our impact were affirmed:
- New Voices Initiative: Prostitution Round Table, Nurturing a New Start
- Women’s Technology Consortium
Grow strategically
Nokomis Foundation recognizes that our history and experience now empower us to share our knowledge more intentionally, connect to partners more strategically, and be at the forefront of identifying innovative solutions that will improve the civic lives and self-sufficiency of women and girls.
As we emerge from renewal, we are focusing funding, research, partnerships and advocacy on:
- Building the self-sufficiency of women and girls
- Increasing the civic and political participation of women and girls
- Improving the ability of nonprofit organizations to serve women and girls
