Are you creating a stronger voice for women and girls?
Nokomis Foundation provides a limited number of discretionary grants to organizations or programs that create a stronger voice for women and girls. These organizations and programs are:
- Located within the geographic boundaries of Allegan, Kent or Ottawa counties in Michigan.
- Aligned with Nokomis Foundation’s mission and values.
- Requesting $5,000 or less.
To apply for a discretionary grant, submit a brief letter (no more than two pages) describing your project or program and explaining how it aligns with Nokomis Foundation’s mission and values.
How are discretionary grants awarded?
Nokomis Foundation awards discretionary grants periodically at the discretion of the staff. Grants are awarded based on the proposed project, the availability of funds, and other current requests for funding.
What is the deadline for submitting requests?
Requests for discretionary funds may be submitted at any time. We reserve the right to deny requests based on the proposed project, the availability of funds, and other requests currently being considered.
What happens once I submit my request?
Nokomis Foundation staff may contact you for additional information related to your proposal. If your request for funding is approved, funds will be disbursed within two weeks of the approval date. Grant recipients will be required to provide a brief summary report on the project, including a full account of all Nokomis Foundation funding.
Are there any criteria for being disqualified?
Certain organizations and projects are immediately disqualified from receiving discretionary funding. These include:
- Projects outside Allegan, Kent or Ottawa counties of West Michigan, unless they have a direct impact on women and girls living in Allegan, Kent or Ottawa counties.
- Proposals submitted by individuals who are not affiliated with a 501(c)(3) organization or proposals from organizations that do not have 501(c)(3) status.
Nokomis discretionary grants also do not support the following:
- Scholarships or fellowships
- Medical research or university-based research
- Projects or programs promoting specific religious beliefs
- Capital campaigns (including building renovation and property purchase)
